  Bio:

For the past 3+ years, Matt Billingslea has been exploring all that Music City has to offer.  Since moving to Nashville in the spring of ’05, his immersion in the local scene has yielded a variety of opportunities.  Within months, Matt was enjoying a busy freelance schedule including cover gigs, label showcases, national tours and session work.  Now, with goals as a drummer, songwriter, producer and clinician, Matt finds himself in the drum chair backing country music’s newest sensation, Lady Antebellum.

Lady Antebellum has enjoyed a fast rise to success.  Since inking a deal with Capitol Records in April ’07, the group has played over 250 shows enjoying headlining duties as well as opening slots for other artists such as Carrie Underwood, Kenny Chesney and Taylor Swift.  With an ACM award for Best New Vocal Group, CMA for New Artist of the Year, two Grammy Nominations, a top #3 single, performances on network television and a very intense tour schedule, this is one group that isn’t showing any signs of slowing down.

Originally from Westminster, MD, Matt gained early experience playing with local rock bands, small jazz combos and several area Big Bands.  In High School, he spent 2 years with the Maryland All-State Jazz Ensemble and 1 year with the All-Eastern Jazz Ensemble.

In the fall of 1997, Matt moved to Columbus, OH to study music at Capital University.  In addition to completing his course work, Matt attended Leigh Stevens Marimba Seminar and the Recording Workshop and also found time to conduct clinics, teach, record and perform in surrounding areas outside of school.
After 4 years in Ohio, Matt moved to Colorado and spent a year on the road with Denver-based singer/songwriter, Matthew Moon.  In the spring of 2003, Matt began his tenure with country/pop artist, Aubrey Collins, headlining regional tours, recording radio shows and showcasing for several major record labels. In addition to maintaining a busy freelance schedule, Matt also co-founded The Jars, an amped-up, punked-out Cars cover band.  Their self-titled debut album and exciting live performances rocked Denver’s underground.

Since moving to Nashville, Matt has quickly established himself as a first call musician.  He is a consistent, versatile, reliable drummer and is easy to work with in any environment.
